Downloading the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool for Norton AntiVirus Online or Norton Internet Security Online



Norton Bootable Recovery Tool is available for download as an ISO file. An ISO file is a complete "image file" of a CD-ROM. To use it, you first need to burn it to a CD. To burn the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool ISO file to a CD, you need the following:

• One blank CD-R disc (Do not use a CD-RW disc).

• Downloaded Norton Bootable Recovery Tool ISO file.

• A CD creation program that is capable of burning, such as GEAR, Nero Burning ROM, or Roxio's Easy CD Creator.

If your PC is infected, we recommend that you download and burn the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool CD on a second PC that is not infected.

Save the file to your desktop.

STEP 2
Burn the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool ISO file to a CD

The process of burning an ISO image is not same as making a data or a music CD. To create the disc, you need a CD burning program, such as GEAR PRO Professional Edition, Roxio Easy CD Creator, or Nero Burning ROM. Neither Windows XP nor Vista can create this type of CD on its own.

  • Gear PRO Professional Edition: Use the "Open external physical image" feature to burn the .ISO to a CD. Refer to the software's documentation for further instructions.

  • Nero Burning ROM: Use the "Burn Image" feature to burn the .ISO image to CD. Refer to the software's documentation for further instructions.

  • Easy CD Creator: Use the "Create CD from Disc Image" feature or "Record to CD" to burn the .ISO image to CD. Refer to the software's documentation for further instructions.

If you do not have any CD burning program on your computer, you can download GEAR ISO Burn from the GEAR Software Web site.

Go to the GEAR ISO Burn download page.

Click Download Now, and save the file to the desktop.

On your Windows desktop, double-click the GEARISOBurn.exe file.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

After the installation is completed, double-click the GEAR ISO Burn shortcut icon on your Windows desktop.

In the GEAR ISO Burn window, click Browse and locate the NBRTSOS.iso file.

If you have more than one CD/DVD drives, select your CD/DVD writer from the drop-down menu.

Insert a blank CD into the CD/DVD drive.

Click Burn.

STEP 3
Run the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool

After you have correctly transferred the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool ISO image to CD, you can use the CD to perform a virus scan.

Insert the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool CD in the CD-ROM drive.

Exit all programs and restart your computer.

When you see the message "Press any key to boot the computer from CD or DVD", press Enter.

In the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool window, select your language and click OK.

Enter your Norton product PIN number that is provided to you by your service provider, and click I Agree to accept the License Agreement.

Norton Bootable Recovery Tool connects to the Internet and download the protection updates.

If the protection updates are not downloaded with a wireless Internet connection, use a wired connection.

To save the scan session information, under Scan, click Select location.

Browse to any folder location where you want to save the scan session information, and then click OK.

Click Start Scan.

Follow the on-screen instructions. After the scan is completed, remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive and restart your computer.
